Invitation to submit a workshop proposal
Our 2024 conference at The Studio, Birmingham on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 July will provide a stimulating environment where we can collaborate in ways that impact careers work and address the changing context. The conference will focus on career and sustainability. We are defining sustainability broadly, as ‘the integration of social equity, economic vitality and environmental health and well-being in order to create thriving healthy, diverse and resilient communities now and in the future’. And will be looking at career and sustainability through three important lenses: skills, wellbeing, and the environment
Speakers include Clare Boden-Hatton, Director for Employment, Skills, Health and Communities at West Midlands Combined Authority, David Blackmore, Head of Sustainable Careers, World Wildlife Fund, Professor Ans De Vos, University of Antwerp, Associate Professor Miriam Dimsits, VIA University College, Denmark, and Dr. Candy Ho, CERIC.
There will be three in-person workshops sessions at the conference, each with 3-5 workshops running at the same time. Day 1: 11.15 – 12.30 and 14.30 – 15.45 Day 2: 11.15 – 12.30 We are inviting submissions from a broad range of contributors and welcome proposals of up to 500 words outlining the workshop’s aim and purpose. We are looking for input that will enable discussion about career and sustainability. We welcome workshops which reflect current practice and policies or theory, or a mixture of these. Workshops should meet one of the key themes for the event:
• Career wellbeing and sustaining the self
• Skills, experiences and learning for sustainability
• Making work decent and sustainable – social justice and inclusivity, AI, how people see work and their relationship to it
• Climate crisis, career and green guidance – labour and demand, context and its impact on careers
Workshops can take the form of a presentation – single/joint presenters or panel format – and include interaction with the audience. Of the workshops selected we would also like three to be repeated via online delivery from the conference venue.
Proposals should be submitted to Events @NICEC.org by 5.00pm Monday 11 March 2024.
